In Church Stretton, in the Shropshire Hills. A 10-minute walk from the pubs, with the Long Mynd reachable on foot.
Weekends from £350 at Larches Lodge and £450 at Oaks Lodge. Pick a date, or leave it blank for the next one free.
3pm
Both lodges are reached on foot along a gravel path: about 80 metres through the planted garden and a gateway of two oaks to Oaks Lodge, and 40 metres from the lower driveway to Larches. Check-in is guaranteed from 3pm, and if you message on the day we’re typically ready from 1.30pm.
We live on site, so if you want advice, need help or arrive late, we’re here.

Both sleep two, with a superking bed, a private hot tub and a fire pit. Here’s how they differ.

A Norwegian log cabin among the larches, perched above the town. Choose this one for a real fire and a big view.

Dusk
Your hot tub is private, and open until 10.30pm for up to three hours a day. Sit out by the fire pit, which runs from April to the end of September at Oaks. At Oaks you’ll hear the stream, and from Larches you look out over the town.
For dinner, cook in your own kitchen or walk into town, where the Jaipur Indian restaurant and Sawaddee Thai are local favourites.
10.30pm
Larches has its Salamander log burner, and Oaks has blackout linings on every window and door. Both beds are superkings, and check-out isn’t until 10.30am.

Morning
The Long Mynd, Hope Bowdler Hill, Ragleth Hill and Caer Caradoc are all accessible on foot from the lodges. A favourite is the Woodland Stays Loop: around 5 miles of moderate-plus walking, up onto the Long Mynd, down Calf Ridge into Carding Mill Valley and back through Rectory Wood.
Or walk into town to Steele’s Family Bakery, named Best Bakery in England 2025 at the England Business Awards. Ludlow and Shrewsbury are each about 11 minutes by train.

“Peaceful, private and if we ever needed anything there was a book to answer every question or if not Sara would always respond and makes things clear.”
“Beautifully designed space which is finished to a great standard. Perfect location for walking in the hills.”

Not staying over? Have a private four-hour session at Stretton Views, with robes, towels and slippers, a lounge, kitchen and bathroom, and tea, coffee and espresso. Ask Mark for prices and dates (opens in a new tab).

We recommend Clearviews Cottage, with five en-suite superking bedrooms, a large hot tub and views of Caer Caradoc. In the week it can be configured for smaller groups at a reduced price. Visit the website (opens in a new tab) or call Sara on 07782 259231.
